Thailand to Offer 30-day Visa-free Entry to Chinese and Kazakhstani Tourists

The Royal Thai Government has announced a new tourist visa exemption scheme for Chinese and Kazakhstani passport holders. Starting from September 25, 2023, until February 29, 2024, tourists from these countries will be allowed to enter and stay in Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa. This initiative aims to promote tourism and people-to-people connectivity, as well as to enhance bilateral relations with the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Cabinet approved this measure on September 13, 2023.

The aforementioned measure aims to facilitate the convenience of Chinese and Kazakhstani tourists traveling to Thailand during the tourist season starting from late September 2023, allowing them to enter Thailand without visa (visa exemption hence no fee). It also serves to promote Thailand's tourism industry, which is a key driver in stimulating the economy, in accordance with the government's policy. This move comes as Thailand seeks to revive its tourism industry, which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. The country saw 11.81 million tourists in 2022, up from just 400,000 the previous year. The Tourism Authority of Thailand also forecast that figure will more than double to 25 million this year.
